Three of the UK’s best firework companies compete against each other with a 10-minute firework display choreographed to music followed by a finale display from organisers MLE Pyrotechnics. The types of fireworks being used by the companies are quite different to the material available to the general public, each company uses category 4 fireworks — those that are for professional use only and the biggest available in the UK.

The event is the only one of its type in the UK where the audience have the capability to vote for the team they liked the most using their mobile phone. Texts will be charged at normal rates and a limit of 1 vote per number is in place. Each voting number receives a text back with the results.

Please feel free to bring along your own food and drink. Be it a few sandwiches and soft drinks or a sumptuous spread of champagne and strawberries, all cold food and beverages are allowed on site. However no BBQ’s or open flamed cooking appliances are allowed on site under any circumstances. There will also be food and drink (bar and soft drinks) available on site from licensed vendors.

The site can cater for disabled persons but it may not be suitable depending on your circumstances. For further advice please contact MLE Pytotecnichs. There is a disabled car parking section - please inform the staff as you arrive and they will direct you accordingly. Signs for disabled parking will also be in place.

This is a ‘self drive’ event. Cost will be £12.50 per member and first guest. Additional guests will be £19.

Plant Oxford is the birthplace and heart of MINI production. Manufactured to individual customer specifications, hundreds of MINIs leave the plant’s assembly lines each day, off to meet new owners in more than 110 countries around the world. In fact, a completed Mini comes off the production line every 67 seconds!

Three UK plants have had a part to play in MINI production — Plant Hams Hall makes engines, Plant Swindon produces body pressings and sub-assemblies for MINI, and all this comes together at Plant Oxford with body shell production, paint and final assembly.

Since production of the new MINI started in 2001, almost 3 million cars have been made at Plant Oxford. But the plant’s heritage goes back much further than that — it is a site with 100 years of automotive manufacturing history, which has become a landmark in the “city of dreaming spires”.

The visit will follow the production line of the BMW Mini from raw steal pressings to finished car. This is a highly automated factory with robots doing most of the work and is an excellent example of JIT (Just In Time) production where each component and sub-assembly comes together just at the right time on the line to produce the wide range of models and options available.

Please note

• The MINI Plant Tour is not wheelchair accessible. Also, the tour is not suitable for people with pacemakers for health and safety reasons.
• Photography and filming is strictly prohibited in production areas. Cameras and mobile phones may not be used and can be placed in lockers. Photographs and film however may be taken in the Exhibition, which you will visit as part of your tour.
• Plant tours last approximately 2 to 2.5 hours and lead through different production and plant site areas. The distance covered is up to 3.5 kilometres. Please wear comfortable and closed toe shoes.

This is a ‘self drive’ event — directions and joining instructions will be given nearer the time.

A deposit of £5.00 pp will be required on confirmation of your booking and the total cost will be in the region of £9.00 to £11.50 per member and first guest (depending on final numbers). Second guests will be £15.00 pp. If the event is over subscribed, there will be a wait list and, if significantly over subscribed, it may be possible to arrange a second group.

Please send booking forms to Dave Compton as soon as possible. When your booking is accepted, you will be asked for the deposit to confirm (do not send any money now).
